Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle yet potent hands on therapy accessing the fascia, the bones, the membrane system and the nervous system. It re-establishes freedom of movement in the cranio-sacral system which affects the body in it’s wholeness and supports it’s self-healing abilities. A ‘cranio’ session is deeply grounding, relaxing, restorative and remedial.
It is effective for:
- Back Pain
- Neck and shoulder pain
- TMJ dysfunctions
- Dizziness and Vertigo
- Eye problems
- Learning Difficulties
- Birth trauma
The Cranio Sacral System is a physiological system that exists in humans as well as animals. It’s formation begins in the womb; it’s function continues until death. It is so named as it involves all the bones of the skull, face and mouth – this makes up the cranium, and it extends down the spinal cord to the lower end of the spine; the sacrum.
The bones of the skull are connected to the spinal cord and sacrum by a continuous membrane system that envelops the brain and central nervous system. The production, circulation and reabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid takes place within this membrane system and is thus an important function of the craniosacral system. Cerebrospinal fluid has a rhythmic movement creating a slow and subtle pulse that can be felt throughout the body and is used both diagnostically and therapeutically during a session.
Trauma to one part of the Cranio Sacral System can adversely affect the whole system, which may result in sensory, motor and intellectual dysfunction. A cranio sacral therapist very gently moves with the bones of the cranium, the membranes and connective tissue inviting the release of tensions and imbalances. Deep relaxation happens, pain patterns begin to dissolve, old injuries are encouraged to dissipate, areas of stress and holding soften and diminish, emotions change and moods lighten. Deep connection to your inner being can occur – the body’s own natural healing abilities are supported and encouraged.
